Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday laid a trap and arrested an in-charge assistant municipal commissioner and tax collector of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh, adding to the tally of senior officials caught in graft cases.
Officials said 13 Class-I officers were booked by the ACB across Gujarat in 2025.The accused was caught red-handed in his office while accepting the bribe from a vehicle trader. The entire amount of Rs 1 lakh, which was both demanded and accepted, was recovered during the operation. According to ACB officials, the complainant deals in the purchase and sale of vehicles through authorized dealers. After a vehicle sale, a discrepancy arose regarding municipal tax payment.
The accused allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh to avoid complaints, cancellation of the trader's licence, and legal action. Unwilling to pay, the complainant approached the ACB, which laid a trap. During the operation, the accused held a conversation with the complainant and accepted the money, after which he was apprehended on the spot. ACB officials said the accused abused his official position for personal gain. Further investigation is underway to check if he was involved in similar offences.
