Gujarat University faces fresh row after empty liquor bottles found on campus

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University has come under scrutiny after empty liquor bottles were found on the rooftop of the Swami Vivekanand Complex, sparking anger among students and raising concerns over campus security.According to sources, the complex houses key departments, including law, commerce and journalism. About six empty liquor bottles were found at the same location just two days earlier. However, the university administration allegedly failed to take strict action, leading to another incident.The recovery of bottles triggered protests by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, who created a ruckus on campus and submitted a memorandum to in charge vice-chancellor Jagdish Joshi, demanding immediate action. ABVP has sought a fair and detailed investigation into how the liquor bottles reached the campus and who was responsible. The student body has also demanded accountability for security lapses and strict disciplinary action against negligent officials.A similar incident was reported in Jan this year, when around 10 empty liquor bottles were found on the terrace of a boys’ hostel. ABVP has warned that it will intensify its protest if prompt action is not taken.
