Suspecting erratic evaluation and tampering of marks in the evaluation of answer sheets of B.Ed examination held in December 2024, the Gulbarga University wrote to the Department of Higher Education seeking permission for conducting an investigation through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The decision was taken in the recently held syndicate meeting at the varsity.

As many as 6,566 B.Ed students, including 2,427 in 2nd semester and 4,139 in 4th semester, appeared for the examination held in December 2024.

The Vice-Chancellor noticed that some students secured identical marks in multiple subjects, and also found tampering of marks. The marks of some students increased significantly after re-evaluation, which led to doubts on the evaluation process.

Besides seeking permission for an investigation by the CID, the syndicate members also sought to appoint the custodians and assistant custodians from government and aided colleges, and evaluators from different universities in neighbouring districts for the re-evaluation of the answer papers of all 6,566 students as part of investigation.

Gulbarga University Registrar Ramesh Londonkar told The Hindu that the university has written to the Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department requesting that the CID be entrusted with a comprehensive investigation into the alleged evaluation scam of B.Ed answer papers. ”We have also a high-level inquiry to rectify the flaws occurring in the evaluation process, and to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future,” he said.
