He highlighted the delicate balance required to create realism while ensuring actor comfort and safety, noting the increasing importance of intimacy coordinators on sets. Devaiah also touched upon the challenges of shooting sensitive sequences responsibly.
Gulshan Devaiah recently opened up about filming an intimate scene with actress Girija Oak for his new web series 'Perfect Family.' He spoke about how important it is to maintain trust and respect while shooting sensitive scenes to make them feel real yet comfortable for everyone involved. While speaking with IANS, the 'Kantara: Chapter 1' mentioned how hard filming intimacy and violent scenes can be. "It's always very difficult to do such scenes, because there is a line that we cannot cross," said Gulshan Devaiah.He also added that there's always a boundary that an actor cannot go beyond. "There is always a boundary you can't go beyond, yet you still have to create the illusion of it being real. So, you must find ways to do it responsibly," he added.The actor explained that trust is the most important foundation between co-actors during scenes involving physical proximity. "When I am working with someone, they have to trust me, and I have to trust them so that we take care of each other. You have to build that trust quickly, especially when you don't know the person very well."Gulshan Devaiah also acknowledged Girija Oak's professionalism and comfort on set, which led to making the scene respectful and smooth for both actors.
Though he didn't go into the specifics of filming the moment, he shared that the process demands sensitivity from everyone involved.The 'Hunterrr' actor also spoke about the growing importance of intimacy coordinators on film and OTT sets. "Sometimes there are intimacy coordinators, like in Ulajh; we had one from the UK who guided us step-by-step through the process and made everyone feel comfortable," he recalled. Although most intimate scenes from 'Ulajh' were later edited out, he believes the presence of a trained professional on set dramatically improves actors' comfort and safety.On the work front, he is currently working on his Tollywood debut in the Samantha Ruth Prabhu film, 'Maa Inti Bangaram'.
