Gumla Youth Arrested for Murder of 85-Year-Old Over Hooch Money

umla: A 21-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday for killing an 85-year-old man after the latter denied money to the accused for buying hooch. The deceased, identified as Sadrak Beck, died on Tuesday after being under treatment for about a month, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Debidih village under Albert Ekka (Jari) police station in Gumla district.Officer in-charge of the local police station, Sanni Kumar said that the incident took place on Feb 13.“The elderly man was walking on the road when the accused apprehended him midway asking for money. When the old man was unable to give any money, he was thrashed leading to his fall on the road riddled with piles of stones nearby. Two days after the incident, we lodged a case of assault against the accused, which has now been turned into murder. The injured was undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital in Gumla and got discharged recently.

However, he died on Tuesday,” the OC said.
