AI engineer Shreshth Malik allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Ishara Ayubi to death inside his PG accommodation in Gurugram before dying by suicide on railway tracks, police said.

AI engineer Shreshth Malik allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Ishara Ayubi to death inside his PG accommodation in Gurugram before dying by suicide on railway tracks, police said.

A 25-year-old AI engineer allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death inside his paying guest (PG) accommodation in Gurugram before dying by suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, police said on Sunday.

Investigators are now examining the couple’s relationship, their digital communications and other forensic evidence to establish what led to the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Shreshth Malik, a resident of Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, and Ishara Ayubi, who hailed from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, both worked for the same private company in Gurugram.

Malik had been staying at a PG accommodation in Sector 55, where the alleged murder took place.

The incident came to light after Ayubi’s family approached the Sector-56 police station on Saturday when repeated attempts to contact her failed.

Based on the complaint, police began tracing her whereabouts using her mobile phone. The phone’s last location led investigators to Malik’s PG accommodation in Sector 55.

Officers arrived at the premises and questioned nearby residents. Neighbours told police they were unaware of any disturbance or suspicious activity. The room was then opened in the presence of the police.

Inside, officers found Ayubi lying in a pool of blood. Blood stains were splattered across the room, suggesting a violent assault. Preliminary findings indicated that she had sustained fatal stab injuries.

A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team later inspected the crime scene and collected evidence for further examination as investigators began piecing together the sequence of events.

As the investigation progressed, police learnt that the Government Railway Police (GRP) had earlier recovered the body of a man from the railway tracks near Garhi railway station.

According to investigators, the man had been struck by a train, and his body was severed into two parts.

Police identified the deceased as Shreshth Malik after recovering a mobile phone from the scene.

The identification established a link between the railway death and the murder case registered in Gurugram.

Investigators suspect that Malik died by suicide after allegedly killing Ayubi, though the exact sequence of events is still being verified.

COUPLE HAD STARTED LIVING TOGETHER RECENTLY

During the preliminary investigation, police found that Ayubi had moved into Malik’s PG accommodation only three days before the incident.

Officials are now trying to determine the nature of their relationship, what transpired before the alleged killing and whether any previous disputes may have contributed to the incident.

“We are investigating every aspect of the case. The nature of the relationship between the two individuals and the reasons behind the incident would only be revealed once the investigation is complete."

“The police are also examining their mobile phones, call details, chats and other technical evidence. An FIR of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway," Sector-56 SHO Inspector Manoj Kumar told news agency PTI.

Police said they are analysing digital evidence, including mobile phones, call records and chat history, alongside forensic findings, to reconstruct the events leading up to the deaths.

The investigation remains ongoing.
