GVMC Tax Collector held accepting ₹30,000 bribe

Officials of the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Visakhapatnam Range, on Friday caught a Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) tax collector allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 for processing pension-related benefits.

According to the ACB, Murugutu Srinu, 45, Tax Collector in the Public Health Wing of the Office of the Zonal Commissioner, West Zone, GVMC, was caught during a trap laid at the West Zone office at around 2.15 p.m. He allegedly demanded and accepted the amount from K. Prasanna Kumar of Pendurthi for processing and sanctioning the pension and other related benefits of the complainant’s aunt, Vennu Chinnathalli.

The ACB said Mr. Srinu joined GVMC as a Public Health Worker on compassionate grounds in 2006 and was promoted as Tax Collector on February 1, 2024. Following the bifurcation of zones, he has been serving in the West Zone since January 2026.

The accused was arrested and is being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Visakhapatnam. The case is under investigation.
