Varun Dhawan wins praise but film divides audiences; 'MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT'

Varun Dhawan's latest release 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' is directed by David Dhawan and it arrived with expectations of delivering a complete family entertainer packed with romance, comedy and confusion.

Soon after the film's release, audiences took to X to share their immediate reactions.

Early responses suggested that viewers had mixed opinions about the comedy drama.

Varun Dhawan's performance earns appreciation

Many viewers highlighted Varun Dhawan's energetic screen presence. Some praised his comic timing and said he carried the film with his performance. One Twitter review reads, "#HaiJawaniTohIshqHonaHai review : A Crazy comedy about one man with two pregnant partners directed by #DavidDhawan.

The basic idea of one man and two simultaneously pregnant partners is from Micki & Maude from 1984. #VarunDhawan displays remarkable energy as a man torn between two partners and two upcoming pregnancies.

Varun Dhawan, #PoojaHegde and Mrunal Thakur’s film offers laugh out loud theater moments and nostalgic vibes."

Some viewers call Varun Dhawan's film disappointing

Not every reaction was positive. Several users felt the film relied heavily on outdated storytelling and weak writing.

Another one wrote, "WHAT A MESS. Outdated storytelling, weak screenplay, forced comedy, underwhelming performances, and barely any moments that actually entertain. A film stuck in the past, pretending it’s still 2010. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT." Several audience members also questioned the screenplay and the film's style of comedy.

Some felt the jokes failed to create the expected impact.Another one wrote, "#HJTIHHReview : Borefest ⭐⭐ (2/5) #HaiJawaniTohIshqHonaHai was supposed to be a brain-rot entertainer, but the story writing and execution are so weak that there is hardly any laughter throughout.

David Dhawan revisits the same territory of Saajan Chale Sasural and Gharwali Baharwali, serving an outdated comedy filled with recycled situations, illogical writing and jokes that rarely land.

"The review further read, "VarunDhawan tries hard to entertain with his energy, expressions and comic timing, but the screenplay doesn't support him. He succeeds in a few moments, but not enough to save the film. There is neither romance nor comedy in the first half screenplay is filled with alcohol, kissing and discussion around having s*x.

2nd half tries to create situational comedy, but it is forced and it came out as cringe.

Varun Dhawan's film divides audiences on day one

The mixed reactions continued with another viewer sharing disappointment over the overall experience. Another review reads, "#HaiJawaniTohIshqHonaHai Review : ⭐️⭐️/5 : Cringe Comedy that doesn’t land in a well developed story. Comedy is subjective and it didn’t work for me, I went with zero expectations and it still disappointed me, I’m not a fan of double meaning Jokes and comedy maybe that’s the reason it disappointed me.

#VarunDhawan should seriously consider doing serious characters rather than cringe comedy ones."Early reactions indicate that 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai' will have to face some struggle at the box office in the coming days.
