Harangi Stadium named after CISF martyr

A programme was held to name Harangi Stadium after the martyr

Madikeri: Harangi Stadium was named after martyr K Raghavendra, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel who was killed in a terrorist attack while on duty.At a programme organised by the water resources department and Kudumangalore gram panchayat, in association with the ministry of home affairs and the CISF, Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda and CISF DIG Nellur Perumal formally named the stadium after the fallen soldier.Raghavendra’s family members were present on the occasion. The MLA and senior officials paid floral tributes to the martyr by offering bouquets to his portrait.Addressing the gathering, Gowda said the memory of Raghavendra, who hailed from a family of freedom fighters, should remain eternal and continue to inspire the younger generation. He lauded the initiative to name the stadium after the martyr and announced a grant of Rs 15 lakh from the MLA fund for its development.

He said steps would be taken to upgrade the ground and construct a gallery.Speaking on the occasion, DIG Nellur Perumal said Raghavendra’s service to the nation was exemplary and appreciated the decision to name the stadium after the martyr to keep his legacy alive.Raghavendra’s brother Suresh also addressed the gathering.On the occasion, the MLA honoured Raghavendra’s mother Kamalamma and CISF officers. Harangi Dam assistant executive engineer Puttaswamy was also present.
