HARIDWAR: A tragic stampede on the pedestrian pathway leading to the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar claimed the lives of eight devotees and left 35 others injured on Saturday morning.Among the 35 injured are 20 men, 8 women, and 7 children — including 2 boys and 5 girls. Authorities have released the names of the deceased and injured confirmed so far. Some individuals are yet to be identified. Uttarakhand minister Ganesh Joshi said, "14 seriously injured people have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh and others are being treated at the district hospital, I have met them and they are fine. The government is providing full support to the victims. It would not be appropriate to draw any conclusion until a detailed investigation is done."Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a magisterial inquiry and announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
