'Harry Potter' fame Rupert Grint set for comeback with horror film ‘Nightborn’: 'It does go against the warmth of Ron'

Apart from Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, the third member of the ‘Harry Potter’ trio, lives a rather quiet life, slightly away from the spotlight. However, now the real life Ronald Weasley is returning to the big screen with horror film ‘Nightborn’, marking a new chapter in his steady but intentionally low-key ‘post-Harry Potter’ career.

In a recent interview to Variety, Rupert Grint shared insights on his acting comeback in the Finnish horror film ‘Nightborn,’ releasing February 14. “When I first read the script, we’d actually just found out that we were having a second baby,” Rupert said to Variety. “So it was very weird timing. But it’s kind of life imitating art.”The film sees Rupert Grint as a father raising his newborn with his wife, played by Seida Haarla in an isolated house deep in the forest.

In the film, there’s something quite not right with the baby.

‘Nightborn’ marks Grint’s first film since 2013’s M. Night Shyamalan apocalyptic psychological horror 'Knock at the Cabin' which was his first in almost a decade. In between he has a main role in the OTT series ‘Servant’. Next up, Rupert Grint just started shooting for ‘Ebeneezer: A Christmas Carol,’ playing Bob Cratchit to Johnny Depp’s Ebeneezer Scrooge.

Grint admits that this recent shift towards genre may well be a subconscious push-back against his most high-profile role. “It does go against the warmth of Ron,” he says. But he’s only choosing projects he thinks will be fun or interesting. It’s a very luxurious position to be in, one he freely acknowledges is down to the financial security already afforded to him by 'Harry Potter.'

Meanwhile, Grint also shared that he wrote a letter to Alistair Stout, the young actor who will be playing the part of Ron in the new ‘Harry Potter’ series. “It was such an exciting time. I do wish them all the best, it’s such a fun journey. But it’s quite strange and surreal. But it really didn’t feel that long ago that we wrapped,” said Rupert. As for advice to the kids, Grint acknowledges that he “didn’t have social media” to deal with, so it’ll likely be a very different experience.
