World No. 1 and reigning Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 Asian Para Archery Championships in Beijing, clinching two gold medals and completing a hat-trick of podium finishes. His efforts helped propel India to second place in the overall medal standings, finishing just behind hosts China.
India wrapped up the competition with a total of nine medals: three gold, three silver, and three bronze. China topped the table with a dominant haul of 10 gold, four silver, and three bronze.
Singh Dominates Recurve Events with Record-Breaking Form
Harvinder began his campaign by setting a new competition record and personal best of 663 points in the recurve men’s qualifying round. He then partnered with Bhawna to secure gold in the recurve open mixed team event, narrowly defeating China’s Zihan Gao and Jun Gan 5-4 (14-8) in a tense shoot-off after Gao missed her shot.
On the final day, Harvinder added a second gold by claiming the recurve men’s open title, outclassing Thailand’s Hanreuchai Netsiri with a commanding 7-1 victory. With two golds and one silver, Singh concluded a remarkable championship showing.
Sheetal and Jyoti Add to India’s Golden Tally
India’s third gold came in the compound women’s team event, where the duo of Sheetal Devi and Jyoti edged past China’s Lu Zhang and Jing Zhao 148-143. The Chinese team faltered in the final end, with Lu Zhang’s miss proving costly.
Near Misses in Close Finals Yield Silver for India
Harvinder, along with teammate Vivek Chikara, had earlier settled for silver in the recurve men’s open doubles. They lost a nail-biting final to China’s Jun Gan and Lixue Zhao 4-5 (17-18) in a shoot-off.
In the compound men’s open doubles, Rakesh Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami were edged out 155-156 by China’s Ai Xinliang and Yicheng Zhang. The Indian pair had led by one point heading into the final end, but the Chinese archers shot a flawless round of 10s to snatch victory.
India’s third silver came in the compound open mixed team event, where Rakesh Kumar and Jyoti fell 150-153 to China’s Jing Zhao and Ai Xinliang.
Bronze Medal Efforts Complete India’s Medal Haul
Pooja and Bhawna earned bronze in the recurve women’s open doubles, overcoming Indonesia 6-2 in a confident performance.
In the men’s W1 doubles category, Naveen Dalal and Nurudin secured bronze with a thrilling win over Kazakhstan. After both teams tied at 131 apiece, the Indian pair prevailed 18-15 in the shoot-off.
Jyoti, seeded third in the compound women’s open category, capped off her impressive run with an individual bronze. She defeated Indonesia’s Teodora Audi Ayudia Ferelly 144-133 to claim her second medal of the tournament.
