Haryana teacher death: 19-year-old cremated, thousands attend farewell; internet suspension extended

CHANDIGARH: The last rites of woman teacher Manisha, who was found dead on August 13 under mysterious circumstances, were performed on Thursday at 8 am in the village crematorium of Dhani Laxman in Bhiwani district.

Her younger brother, Nitesh, lit the funeral pyre.The body was brought directly from the Civil Hospital to the cremation ground. A large number of people, including members of social groups, villagers, family, administration officials, and police personnel, gathered to pay their final respects.The protest related to the case had ended on Wednesday late evening.A CBI investigation has already been ordered in accordance with local public sentiment.Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rajshree attended the funeral and offered condolences to the bereaved family.Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni said: “The protestors are satisfied as their demands for a post-mortem by AIIMS and a CBI investigation have been met. However, we will continue to monitor the developments closely.”Chaduni also emphasized that with the end of the protest, any FIRs or arrests made against protestors should be withdrawn, including in this case.

Haryana extends internet suspension

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has extended the suspension of internet services in Bhiwani district are in view of the tension due to the incident. An order in this regard has been issued by the home department on Thursday.The restrictions, initially imposed for 48 hours, were extended on Thursday as the deceased was cremated at her native place.
