Haryana woman dumps infant daughter in drain, says struggling with 5 children

In a case that has shocked Haryana, a nine-month-old baby girl was found dead in a drain in Faridabad, with police later arresting her mother after CCTV footage and questioning pointed to a chilling act driven by desperation.

The case came to light on April 23, when a routine morning turned into a disturbing discovery.

Two schoolchildren, on their way to class, spotted the body of an infant lying in a drain in the Palla area. Their alert drew locals to the spot, and police were called in.

Officers recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. The gravity of the case led to the Crime Branch taking over the investigation.

CCTV TRAIL REVEALS THE TRUTH

As officers scanned CCTV footage from the area, one clip stood out. A woman was seen walking towards the drain carrying a baby. Moments later, she returned alone.

That single visual set the investigation in motion.

Police tracked the woman to a nearby slum cluster and brought her in for questioning.

CONFESSION LEAVES POLICE STUNNED

During interrogation, the woman admitted to throwing the baby into the drain.

She told police she had five children, four sons and the youngest, a nine-month-old daughter, and was struggling to support them.

Her husband is paralysed, and she works as a daily wage labourer. According to police, she said she threw the child into the drain while the baby was asleep.

FAMILY UNDER STRAIN

Police said the family hails from Madhubani in Bihar and had been living in Faridabad for several years in search of work.

Faridabad Police PRO Yashpal said the woman has been arrested and further investigation is ongoing.

PROBE CONTINUES

The postmortem report is awaited to establish the exact cause of death. Investigators are continuing to piece together the sequence of events.

The case has raised troubling questions, not just about the crime, but the circumstances that led to it.
