Hazaribag: Ramnavami festivities in Hazaribag began with the ‘Mangla julus’ (procession) on Tuesday evening, drawing thousands of devotees, as the district administration maintained a tight vigil over the proceedings which went on till early on Wednesday.The administration also seized a DJ set being used during the procession in violation of Jharkhand high court’s ban.Last year, communal clashes took place during the procession. This time, the administration was on high alert to avert any untoward incident as both deputy commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh and SP Anjani Anjan kept moving in the area.Devotees from various localities and akhadas reached Jhanda Chowk carrying flags and dressed in traditional attire.
The city echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Ram” as the procession moved through key routes.Considering the large turnout, the administration was on alert and seized a DJ set being used during the procession at Deepugarha Chowk.According to a press release issued by the district information, use of DJs during festivals is strictly prohibited in compliance with HC directives.Mangla julus is a long-standing tradition in Hazaribag and is taken out on the first Tuesday after Holi, continuing every Tuesday until RamNavami.The Hazaribag celebrations more than a century-old. The festival attracts a large number of devotees from different parts of the country every year.
