Panaji: The Bombay high court overturned a judgment of the lower court and acquitted Ignatius Minj, who was convicted of a 2018 murder and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. The high court directed the superintendent of the central jail, Colvale, to release him after completing all formalities.A contractor from Varca reported to the Colva police in 2018 that an unidentified person killed his labourer, Thadeus Bara, from Jharkhand. He was informed that Bara was dead at his construction site at Varca.The high court found that the sessions court judgment was based on the testimony of a sole eyewitness. The high court found this testimony to be unreliable. It found the lone eyewitness' evidence to be full of inconsistencies and not corroborated by evidence of other witnesses or medical evidence.
