HC orders police to produce missing Vijayawada man by June 29

Assistant govt pleader Krishna Praneeth informed the court that Sai Krishna’s whereabouts were still unknown and that special police teams were formed to trace him

Amaravati: The mysterious disappearance of a Vijayawada man has come under the scrutiny of the Andhra Pradesh high court, which has directed police to produce him before the court by June 29.The case relates to Gade Sai Krishna, a resident of Krishnalanka in Vijayawada, against whom several criminal cases are reportedly registered. His mother, Vijayalakshmi, approached the high court through a habeas corpus petition, alleging that Krishnalanka police took her son into custody from Markapur, where he had been living for some time, but failed to produce him before a lower court thereafter.During the hearing, assistant govt pleader Krishna Praneeth informed the court that Sai Krishna’s whereabouts were still unknown and that special police teams were formed to trace him.

He sought additional time to locate and produce him before the court. The petitioner’s counsel, K.V. Aditya Chowdary, argued that the family fears Sai Krishna may have suffered harm while in police custody. The petitioner suspects that police torture could have led to his death, the court was told.Taking note of the submissions, a division bench comprising justice R. Raghunandan Rao and justice T.C.D. Sekhar directed the police to ensure Sai Krishna’s presence before the court on or before June 29. The matter has heightened concerns over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the ongoing police investigation.
