'He actually knows Marathi, he was hiding from us': Shilpa Shirodkar reveals how 'Varanasi' star Mahesh Babu secretly spied on her and Namrata for years

Actor Shilpa Shirodkar recently shared a funny family story about her Tollywood superstar brother-in-law Mahesh Babu. She talked about when she and her sister Namrata Shirodkar believed Mahesh did not understand Marathi during the early days of his marriage.

Because of that, the two sisters used Marathi whenever they wanted to have a private conversation in front of him.Shilpa Shirodkar discussed the incident while appearing on the latest episode of 'India's Best Dancer' Season 5. Shilpa said, “I have to tell you this, it’s a very personal thing. My sister is married to Mahesh, right? Who is Telugu. Unko Marathi nahi aati thi jab nayi nayi shaadi hui thi. Toh hum log, hum logon ko kuch bhi agar bolna hota tha toh hum log Marathi mein bolte the.”

Shilpa recalled that everything changed one day after Mahesh had been married to Namrata for a few years. While the two sisters were talking in Marathi, Mahesh suddenly joined the conversation in the same language. His unexpected reply completely surprised both of them.She said, “So after a few years of being married to Namrata, me and Namrata were talking about something, or suddenly Mahesh said, ‘Accha, asa kaay?’ (Oh really? ) And we were like usko Marathi aati hai! (He knows Marathi)”

Shilpa said Mahesh then admitted that he understood Marathi all along.

She laughed while remembering how she and Namrata looked at each other after finding out the truth. She also said they felt lucky that they had never spoken badly about him in front of him. She recalled, “He was like mala samajhte Marathi (I understand Marathi). So he actually knows Marathi, he was hiding from us! And it was so funny because me and Namrata literally got caught and we were like, thank God hum logon ne aisa kuch nahi bola ki we would have been really, really taken for a ride.” (Thank God we didn't say anything bad, or we would have been in real trouble / completely fooled. )
