Roger Federer will make a return to Shanghai this fall, headlining the “Roger Federer & Friends” celebrity doubles match on October 10, giving fans another opportunity to watch him in action."Hello, this is Roger, and I am really happy to be returning to Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters,” Federer said in a video.

“Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with great fans, unforgettable memories, and a real love for the game,” he added.The two-time Shanghai Masters champion last visited the city in 2024, spending a few fun-filled days exploring, meeting Novak Djokovic, watching Jannik Sinner, and even training indoors with Carlos Alcaraz, jokingly questioning what he was doing there.
Federer boasts a 23-6 career record in Shanghai across eight appearances. On his debut in 2010, he defeated Novak Djokovic before falling to Andy Murray in the final. The same duo met in the 2012 semi-final, with Murray again prevailing in straight sets.

After a loss to Gael Monfils in 2013, Federer finally lifted his first title in China in 2014, defeating Djokovic and Gilles Simon. He was upset by Alberto Ramos-Vinolas in 2015 but returned in 2017 to claim his second Shanghai crown, beating Juan Martin del Potro and Rafael Nadal, and breaking Nadal’s serve three times in a dominant 6-4, 6-3 final.
Federer’s later campaigns saw mixed results — a semi-final defeat to Borna Coric in 2018 and a quarter-final loss to Alexander Zverev in 2019, marking his last competitive appearance at the event.Last year, the Swiss maestro was warmly received in Shanghai, and in just two months, fans will once again see him grace the courts in one of his favorite tennis destinations.
