Parking charges have been fixed at Rs 30 for two-wheelers and Rs 60 for cars. This is expected to reduce the number of private vehicles entering the already crowded central areas.

Commuters have been advised to get down at Cubbon Park or MG Road stations, which are the closest to the stadium, and walk the remaining distance. Image: X
As Bengaluru prepares for the IPL 2026 opening match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, BMRCL authorities are stepping in with extended metro services and added parking facilities to manage the expected rush. With thousands of fans set to converge in the central business district, Namma Metro has announced late-night operations along with commuter-friendly measures to reduce traffic congestion.
The move is aimed at encouraging spectators to rely on public transport rather than personal vehicles, especially in and around the stadium where traffic restrictions will be in place.
Metro Services Extended Beyond Regular Hours
On March 28, metro services will run beyond usual operating hours across all lines. According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, trains will continue operating late into the night, with services available from all terminal stations until around 2 AM.
This extension is expected to help match-goers return home comfortably after the game, avoiding last-mile travel challenges late at night. Key terminal stations such as Whitefield, Challaghatta, Silk Institute, Madavara and Bommasandra will have staggered last train departures to accommodate passenger flow.
From Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station Majestic, trains will operate towards all directions even past midnight, ensuring connectivity across the network.
Parking at 44 Metro Stations
To further ease congestion near the stadium, authorities have arranged parking facilities at 44 metro stations across the city. Spectators can park their vehicles at these locations and switch to metro services for the final leg of their journey.
Parking charges have been fixed at Rs 30 for two-wheelers and Rs 60 for cars. This park-and-ride approach is expected to reduce the number of private vehicles entering the already crowded central areas.
Commuters have been advised to get down at Cubbon Park or MG Road stations, which are the closest to the stadium, and walk the remaining distance.
QR Code Travel Option for Ticket Holders
In a move to simplify travel, metro authorities have integrated ticketing with IPL entry passes. A QR code for two-way metro travel will be printed on match tickets or provided digitally, allowing spectators to use the metro without purchasing separate tickets.
This is expected to speed up entry at stations and reduce queues, particularly during peak hours before and after the match.
Authorities have urged the public to make maximum use of metro services on match day to avoid road congestion. With traffic restrictions, road closures and heavy vehicle movement expected around the stadium, metro travel is likely to be the most efficient option.
For commuters and cricket fans alike, March 28 will bring a mix of excitement and logistical challenges. The extended metro timings and additional parking facilities offer a practical alternative to navigating traffic, making it easier to move in and out of the city centre during one of the busiest evenings of the season.
