NEW DELHI: Several states across India have revised school timings and announced closures as a severe heatwave continues to push temperatures beyond 44°C in many regions. Authorities have taken precautionary measures to reduce student exposure to extreme daytime heat, with no immediate relief forecast.The impact has been widespread, prompting changes in academic schedules, early summer vacations, and temporary shutdowns. In Delhi and Uttarakhand, institutions have implemented “water bell” systems, ensuring students hydrate at regular intervals.Outdoor activities, assemblies, and open-air classes have been suspended during peak heat hours between 11 am and 4 pm in regions including Delhi and Telangana.Despite reduced student hours, teaching staff in states such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are required to stay until 1:30 pm to complete administrative work.
