The warning comes as parts of the country continue to witness uneven monsoon distribution.

Even as an active southwest monsoon continues to drench large parts of north, east and northeast India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that isolated heatwave conditions are likely to return over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, highlighting the contrasting weather patterns prevailing across the country.

The IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue over several states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy rain is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

Despite the widespread monsoon activity, the weather agency has forecast heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, underlining that high temperatures can persist in some regions even during the rainy season.

The warning comes as parts of the country continue to witness uneven monsoon distribution, with rainfall remaining concentrated over northern, eastern and northeastern India.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over the Himalayan region, eastern India and the Northeast over the coming days. States such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and Uttarakhand are likely to receive widespread to fairly widespread rainfall through much of the week.

The weather office has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, East Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Jharkhand.

Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and West Madhya Pradesh, while thunderstorms with lightning are expected across parts of the Northeast, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

The IMD has advised residents in both rain-affected and heat-affected regions to stay updated with local weather advisories, as India continues to experience sharply contrasting weather conditions under the influence of the southwest monsoon.
