Heavy rain lashes parts of Nashik city after four-day dry spell

Sunday’s spell led to widespread waterlogging, worsening traffic congestion, particularly on roads affected by ongoing infrastructure works.

Nashik: Rainfall resumed in Nashik city on Sunday after a five-day dry spell, with heavy showers triggering waterlogging, power outages and traffic congestion across several areas, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the district for the next few days.Intense rain lashed Dwarka, Nashik Road, Cidco and adjoining localities for over half an hour, leading to water accumulation at multiple low-lying stretches and slowing vehicular movement on key roads. The sudden downpour also disrupted power supply in parts of the city. Officials said electricity outages were reported during the rain but supply was restored about an hour after the showers subsided. The city had not received rain since June 23, with dry conditions prevailing for four days and raising concerns among farmers.

Sunday’s showers, however, brought partial relief in both urban and rural areas. The IMD has issued a forecast of yellow alert for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, warning of thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places, while light to moderate rain is expected on Wednesday.Sunday’s spell led to widespread waterlogging, worsening traffic congestion, particularly on roads affected by ongoing infrastructure works.

Commuters faced delays as rainwater accumulated on key stretches, many of which have been dug up for underground utility ducts and remain unrepaired. The Nashik Municipal Corporation’s large-scale utility duct projects have left several roads in a vulnerable condition during the monsoon, exacerbating flooding and traffic disruptions.Weather remained overcast through the day, with the maximum temperature dropping to 33.7°C from 35.1°C a day earlier, while the minimum was recorded at 24.2°C.Officials said intermittent rainfall is likely to continue over the next few days as monsoon activity gathers pace in the region.
