The J&K administration has ordered closure of all the government and private schools on Wednesday following IMD’s Srinagar Centre issuing an alert of heavy to very heavy rain across Jammu province on the night of September 2 till next afternoon. The J&K State Board of School Education has ordered cancellation of Class 10th and 11th exams scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

The Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Yatra in Trikuta Hills near Katra remained suspended for the eighth day.   Heavy rain cut off the Jammu-Srinagar highway again on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had come to Jammu from Srinagar through the highway, said the authorities were working to restore two way traffic through alternate stretches.

The traffic police on Monday evening advised people to avoid travel on the highway saying the stretch at Tharad in Udhampur district has completely sunk.
