Heavy rains disrupt Gangotri and Yamunotri highways

UTTARKASHI: Continuous rainfall in the district has disrupted traffic on the Gangotri and Yamunotri National Highways due to landslides. UTTARKASHI:The Gangotri National Highway is blocked near Nalupani following a landslide and the accumulation of debris.

Relevant agencies are working on a war footing to clear the debris and restore traffic flow as quickly as possible.Meanwhile, the Yamunotri National Highway is closed near Syanachatti due to a landslide. A team from NH Barkot is actively engaged in clearing the debris using machinery to reopen the route.In view of the incessant rain, the District Magistrate has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert.

An appeal has also been issued to residents living near rivers and streams to stay vigilant and move to safer locations if necessary.The administration has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and to undertake journeys only if absolutely essential until weather conditions normalize. Travelers are also urged to check the latest road status before setting out.
