Hema Malini shares on audience's love for Hindi film tracks: 'Not only Indians, but even foreigners listen to our songs'
Veteran actress Hema Malini fondly remembered her late husband, legendary actor Dharmendra, during Hema Malini Live in Concert held on July 10 at Mumbai's Shanmukhananda Hall. The special programme celebrated her remarkable 60-year journey in Indian cinema. It also served as a tribute to Dharmendra, whose contribution to Indian cinema continues to be remembered by fans and colleagues alike.The evening featured music, memories and emotional moments as Hema looked back on her long career. While interacting with the media on the sidelines of the event, Hema Malini was asked about her favourite co-star and husband, Dharmendra. The actress responded with a smile and admitted that she could speak about him endlessly. In a video shared by the Instagram page Buzzookaprime, Hema said, "What do I have to say about Mr.
Dharam? I will keep talking about him all night. I have a lot to say about him. But in today's show, we are just concentrating a little bit. I have seen that wherever we go, all over the world, we have travelled. But there is a lot of craze for Hindi film songs. It's not only Indians, but even foreigners listen to our songs and remember them and sing them."
Hema Malini reflects on the golden era of Hindi cinema
Continuing the conversation, Hema Malini spoke about the timeless appeal of songs from the 1970s and 1980s.
She said audiences across generations continue to enjoy music from that period. She added, "There is so much craze. And especially, it is all 70s and 80s songs. At that time, we were also acting. So, I got a lot on our credit." The actress recalled how she and Dharmendra were among the leading stars of that era. Many of their films and songs continue to enjoy immense popularity, not only in India but also among audiences overseas.
An emotional moment after the Padma Vibhushan tribute
Hema Malini's interaction came shortly after she accepted the Padma Vibhushan that was awarded posthumously to Dharmendra in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema. Earlier, the actress had spoken about the emotional experience of receiving the honour on his behalf. She shared that she felt as though Dharmendra was walking beside her as she made her way to the stage.

The emotional ceremony was attended by members of Dharmendra's family, including daughter Ahana Deol, who was seen becoming emotional during the tribute. For Hema Malini, the evening was more than a celebration of six decades in cinema. It was also an opportunity to remember the man with whom she shared countless memories both on and off screen.
