In the quiet lanes of Lalaghatta, a small village in Ramanagara district of Karnataka, a story of courage has quietly unfolded. S. Prabhavathi from the village has just been selected as a Civil Judge at the age of 25.

While the legal world often feels elite, her journey breaks every stereotype. She secured the 81st rank in the judicial exams. This achievement is a milestone for a community that rarely sees its children reach such heights. Her success proves that talent can bloom even in the toughest conditions.

A Foundation of Hard Labour

The story of this success was written in the trenches of manual labour. Prabhavathi is the daughter of Panchamrutha and Subramanya. This couple has spent 50 years working as daily wage laborers.

They cleaned drainage systems for the Channapatna City Municipal Council. It was gruelling work with little social recognition. Yet, they had one steady goal. They wanted their children to receive a high-quality education.

Prabhavathi started her journey with a law degree. She moved to Bengaluru to practice as an advocate in the busy city courts. However, she always aimed for the judge’s bench. She balanced her daily legal practice with intense study sessions.

In February 2025, she appeared for the judicial examinations. Her hard work paid off, making her one of the youngest successful candidates in the state. She has scored 81st rank.

“Poverty is never an obstacle if there is dedication and hard work," Prabhavathi said after her selection. “My parents’ struggle was my biggest motivation. They worked in the drains so I could sit in a courtroom."

A Symbol of Rural Inspiration

The news has turned her small colony in Lalaghatta into a place of celebration. For a family that lived in the shadows, this is a moment of deep validation. Her story is now a beacon for rural students across Karnataka. It shows that economic background does not have to limit a person’s future.

“We wanted our children to live with dignity," her parents shared. “We never let our poverty enter their classrooms. Seeing our daughter become a judge makes every day of labour worth it."
