High-voltage drama as police make bid to arrest Pappu Yadav

Purnia MP Pappu Yadav faced a dramatic late-night attempt by police to arrest him over a 31-year-old case involving alleged fraudulent house rental in Patna. Supporters gathered, hindering the arrest. The case, dating back to 1995, concerns accusations of misrepresenting a property's use as an office.

Patna: A high-voltage drama was witnessed at the residence of Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan aka Pappu Yadav in the Mandiri locality of the state capital late Friday, when cops from five police stations reached there to arrest him in connection with a 31-year-old case.

The police arrived to make the arrest following a court order.However, Yadav told the police that he would cooperate with the investigation in the morning.A large number of his supporters also gathered outside his residence, creating a hurdle in Yadav’s arrest. Till the time of filing of the report, Yadav was not arrested.According to police sources, “The case dates back to 1995, when Yadav was accused of fraudulently renting a house in Patna’s Gardanibagh area to use as his office.”The case was filed by Vinod Bihari Lal, the owner of the house, who alleged that Yadav rented the property by misrepresenting its purpose. Lal claimed that Yadav used the house as his office without disclosing this information while taking it on rent. The court previously issued a non-bailable warrant against Yadav and later issued an order to attach his properties.The MP-MLA court in Patna issued a warrant against Yadav after he failed to appear in court despite multiple summons. The court also ordered the attachment of Yadav’s properties. The court scheduled the next hearing on Feb 7. If Yadav fails to appear in court, the police may proceed with attaching his properties.
