Highway horror: Drunk driver rams scooter after alleged harassment, woman critical

Raichur: A woman was seriously injured after a goods vehicle allegedly rammed her scooter on the Lingasugur-Kalaburagi National Highway on Friday in what police described as a case of harassment that escalated into a deliberate crash.Police said the accused, identified as Chetan, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he began harassing the woman, Gurulingamma, as she rode her scooter. He allegedly chased her along the highway before intentionally crashing the goods vehicle into her two-wheeler.The force of the impact threw Gurulingamma onto the road, leaving her with severe injuries. Passers-by rushed to her rescue and shifted her to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

The driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.A video of the attack, reportedly recorded by occupants of a vehicle travelling behind, later surfaced on social media and quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage. The footage purportedly shows the goods vehicle hitting the woman before she was hurled onto the road.Police initiated an investigation after the video came to light. The accused was subsequently traced and taken into custody. A case has been registered at the Lingasugur police station.
