A man allegedly attacked and injured his sister with a saw after she objected to him verbally abusing their mother, and also assaulted their grandmother and uncle when they tried to intervene, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place in Dulehar village in Una district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday morning. The 22-year-old woman suffered a severe injury near her ear and was taken to the Community Health Centre in Dulaihar, where doctors advised an X-ray and a head scan to check for any internal injuries.
In her complaint, the woman said she was brushing her teeth at home at around 7 am when her brother started verbally abusing their mother over some issue. Police said, "She tried to reason with her brother, asking him not to mistreat their mother, but the accused took offence, and during the altercation, he picked up a saw and attacked her."
Police said the woman's grandmother rushed to the spot after hearing her screams and tried to intervene, but the accused assaulted her as well. Her uncle was also injured in the scuffle, officials said. Neighbours then took the injured woman to the health centre for treatment.
Police said they have registered a case against the accused under sections 126(2), 115(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, and breach of peace.
An MLC report has been prepared, and police said the probe is underway, the medical procedures have been completed, and the victim's statement has been recorded.
The case centres on an alleged attack inside the family home in which the woman, her grandmother and her uncle were injured after the woman intervened when her brother was allegedly abusing their mother, police said.
