A tragic yet moving incident recently took place in Himachal Pradesh where a dog was found guarding his owner's body for over four days in biting cold. The incident took place after two cousins went missing in Chamba valley due to a snowstorm that hit the region while they were on a trek.
Piyush, the owner of the dog, and his cousin faced biting cold and extreme weather conditions while they hoped for help to arrive. Unfortunately, the men had already lost their lives by the time rescuers could reach them.
When the rescue team was in the process of retrieving Piyush's body, they were surprised to find his pit bull sitting right beside him.
The canine is believed to have endured subpar temperatures for over four days as he stayed by his owner's side. The dog was so protective of Piyush that he initially did not even allow the rescuers to touch his owner's body.
Meanwhile, the body of Piyush's cousin was also recovered by the rescue personnel in a nearby spot on a mountain slope.
Both the bodies and the dog were airlifted out of the area. A video showed the rescue team bringing the dog to safety.
With a muzzle around its mouth, the dog appeared unaware of Piyush's death as it wiggled its tail while being walked by the people present there.
