BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has been elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party.
Himanta Biswa Sarma will take the oath as the Chief Minister of Assam on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ceremony as the chief guest.
After being elected as the leader of the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party, Sarma expressed gratitude to PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National President Nitin Nabin.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has blessed us to form the government in Assam for a third consecutive term. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister. The people have blessed us, and we will carry out development work over the next five years. I also express my gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National President Nitin Nabin," he said.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a third consecutive term in Assam after winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly. The BJP emerged as the largest party with 82 seats, while its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), won 10 seats each.
On Saturday, Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who were appointed as the BJP’s central observer and co-observer for Assam, respectively.
Following constitutional procedure, Sarma had submitted his resignation to the Governor on Wednesday.
