As Iran rejoiced at the death of US President Donald Trump’s close ally Lindsey Graham, the country’s Foreign Ministry on Monday described the deceased lawmaker as a “hot-headed" and “sharp-tongued" person, saying his entire life’s legacy revolved around his “support for aggression".

Lindsey Graham, 71, died on Saturday evening after experiencing a “brief and sudden illness", his office said in a statement. According to US media, emergency personnel were dispatched to his Capitol Hill home after a call for cardiac arrest.

Esmail Baghaei, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said what he described as a “dark record" of Graham will stay in the minds of people.

“Azrail (the Angel of Death) is just. For such an individual, whose entire life’s legacy was malice and support for aggression, nothing but a dark record will remain in the minds of people", Baghaei said.

Iran Celebrates Graham’s Death

Iran’s state-run media outlets and pro-regime supporters celebrated the death of US Senator Lindsey Graham on Sunday. As state television presenters were seen beaming on air, mocking the late lawmaker, US President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quietly mourned the loss of a close friend.

A news anchor on the Islamic Republic’s state television announced the death of Lindsey Graham with a grotesque smile, saying:“I congratulate the great nation of Iran on the fact that Lindsey Graham—the warmongering, anti-Iran U.S. senator—has gone straight to hell." pic.twitter.com/Ruj8euQIIh

One TV host “congratulated" the Iranians and said: “Congratulate the great nation of Iran on the fact that Lindsey Graham—the warmongering, anti-Iran U.S. senator—has gone straight to hell."

Lindsey Graham, a close comrade of President Trump, was known for his hardened stance on America’s foreign policy. A Senator from South Carolina, Graham advocated US’ military assistance to Ukraine in its war against Russia, strongly backed Israel’s operations in Gaza, and openly voiced his condemnation of the Iranian regime.

After the February 28 US-Israeli attacks on Iran, he called for the Iranian regime to be overthrown and argued that the collapse of the government would reshape the economic landscape of West Asia.

‘I Thought He Was Fine’

President Trump expressed grief over the loss of an ally, saying he was working very hard and that he wanted to “make America happy“.

“Well, it’s devastating. I thought he was fine. He called me last night. He just got back from Ukraine. And he had a great time. He was telling me about the trip. He was working very, very hard, because we know he wanted to make America happy," Trump told Tapper.
