Panaji: Following the collapse of a hoarding on the Calangute Nagoa Parra road, locals wrote to the disaster management authority and the office of the deputy collector, Bardez, seeking the immediate removal of illegal hoardings on public roads in Calangute to avoid disasters.
They have given a deadline of three days. The locals stated that they are concerned about the threat to the life and safety of citizens residing in and visiting Calangute. The locals submitted a list of these illegal hoardings, stating that they are unlikely to withstand strong, gusty winds and could potentially cause a man-made disaster. These hoardings do not have the required permission from the PWD, an NOC from the National Highway Authority of India, a structural stability/liability certificate from a registered architect, technical clearance from TCP, and a valid construction licence from the local authority, the locals stated in their letter. They sought the removal of the illegal hoardings within three days, failing which they stated that they would be constrained to go to the HC.
