The Women and Child Development office on Robinson Road in Palakkad received a threatening email on Thursday morning (August 21, 2025), saying that a bomb had been planted in the building as a protest against the officer in-charge, who was accused of harassing children.
The police bomb squad arrived at the office and conducted a thorough search, but no explosives were found. The Women and Child Development office at the Collectorate was also searched. The email had claimed that the bomb was disguised as a cigarette lighter.
District Police Chief Ajit Kumar led the search operation, supported by a bomb squad and sniffer dog squad. Fire and Rescue Services personnel also joined the effort, evacuating the Collectorate offices.
The threat was confirmed to be a hoax. But it caused a two-hour disruption to the normal functioning of the offices.
The Revenue Divisional Office at the Collectorate had received a similar false bomb threat a couple of months ago. But none was arrested in connection with that.
