Spain's dramatic 2-1 victory over Belgium in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals attracted almost as much attention off the pitch as it did on it, with Hollywood stars, music icons, royalty, athletes and internet personalities packing the VIP sections at Los Angeles Stadium to watch one of the tournament's biggest matches.La Roja secured their place in the semi-finals thanks to Mikel Merino's late winner after Fabián Ruiz had opened the scoring and Charles De Ketelaere briefly levelled for Belgium. But throughout the afternoon, the cameras regularly turned away from the action to capture an extraordinary collection of celebrity guests assembled in California.

Brad Pitt and Spanish stars headline the VIP suites

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt was among the biggest names in attendance, watching the quarter-final from a luxury VIP suite. The 62-year-old actor, filmmaker arrived wearing a United States jersey, seemingly having expected the co-hosts to reach the quarter-finals before Belgium ended their campaign in the Round of 16. Pitt paired the shirt with a backwards white baseball cap and aviator sunglasses as he attempted to keep a relatively low profile. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, jewellery designer Ines de Ramon. Although born in New Jersey, De Ramon is of Spanish heritage and made her loyalties clear by wearing an Adidas Spain vest with red-and-yellow face paint in support of La Roja.

Sharing the suite with the couple were Oscar-winning actors Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who naturally backed their native Spain throughout the afternoon.

Javier Bardem was among the most passionate Spain supporters in the stands, proudly wearing a personalised red home shirt gifted to him by striker Borja Iglesias featuring "B. Iglesias" and the No. 26 on the back. Before kick-off, the Oscar-winning actor was spotted pitchside showing off the customised jersey while soaking up the atmosphere.

After the final whistle, Bardem was also seen approaching teenage star Lamine Yamal to ask for a photo, capturing a memorable moment between Spanish football and Hollywood royalty.

Cruz opted for Spain's white away shirt and was one of the most animated spectators throughout the match. During the first half, she was seen turning around in her seat to point towards Pitt and De Ramon, with the pair appearing to laugh in response.

The actress was also later spotted chatting enthusiastically with Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

Gallagher attended the match alongside his son Jack, making the trip to Los Angeles ahead of England's own quarter-final against Norway. The lifelong Manchester City supporter had reason to watch both teams closely, with Belgium winger Jérémy Doku and Spain midfielder Rodri both involved in the contest.

Timothée Chalamet and a wider celebrity turnout

Among the additional high-profile attendees was Timothée Chalamet, who continued his increasingly visible presence across major sporting events this summer.

The actor, fresh from his involvement in the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals run, was spotted in the stands taking in the World Cup atmosphere as Spain and Belgium battled for a semi-final place.

Chalamet was far from alone in representing Hollywood’s younger generation. Actress and producer Issa Rae also played a prominent role in the pre-match proceedings, performing the ceremonial coin toss. Rae, who is also a part-owner of MLS side San Diego FC, has long spoken about her passion for football and its global reach.Rock icon Courtney Love, best known as the frontwoman of 1990s alternative rock band Hole and for her high-profile marriage to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, was another surprise guest in attendance. The singer and actress briefly appeared on the stadium’s jumbotron despite seemingly trying to stay out of the spotlight.

Music stars, royalty, influencers and sporting names also attend

Belgium's King Philippe also travelled to California, watching the match alongside Royal Belgian Football Association president Pascale Van Damme as the Red Devils attempted to reach the semi-finals.

Spain's own royal family, however, were absent. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia remained in Spain after attending the opening celebrations of the San Fermín festival in Pamplona earlier in the week.Canadian pop star Tate McRae was handed one of the pre-match ceremonial duties, carrying the official match ball onto the pitch before kick-off. The 23-year-old singer arrived wearing a black Adidas jacket over a matching T-shirt with loose white jeans.

NFL star Myles Garrett, who is preparing for his first season with the Los Angeles Rams following his blockbuster move from the Cleveland Browns, also attended alongside his Olympic champion girlfriend Chloe Kim.The celebrity list extended into the world of digital entertainment as well. YouTuber KSI was spotted in the stands, having previously taken part in a televised World Cup sweepstake, while fellow internet personality IShowSpeed drew attention with a custom split Spain-and-Belgium jersey as he documented the match for his millions of followers.

A spectacle on and off the pitch

With such a diverse and high-profile crowd in attendance, the Spain vs Belgium quarter-final became one of the most star-studded fixtures of the tournament. On the pitch, Spain ultimately prevailed, with Merino capitalising on a late goalkeeping error to seal a 2-1 victory and set up a semi-final clash with France.
