A rare Indian Honey Badger seen dead on the Chandrapur-Mul highway

Chandrapur: A honey badger, a species protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Chandrapur-Mul National Highway (NH-930) near Agadi village on Wednesday.The carcass was spotted by Shashank Moharkar, a wildlife lover who alerted the forest officials of Chichpalli forest range. Forest officials reached the spot, conducted a panchnama and launched an investigation.The Chandrapur-Mul highway is a key wildlife corridor connecting the Kawal Tiger Reserve, Kanhalgaon Sanctuary, Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Umred-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary. Tigers, leopards, sloth bears, deer and wild boar frequently cross the stretch.Conservationists said the absence of effective mitigation measures has resulted in repeated wildlife deaths on the highway. With the latest incident, four honey badgers were killed in road accidents on this stretch.
