Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he would be honoured to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s state visit to Australia from July 8 to 10.

“I am honoured to welcome my friend Prime Minister Modi to Australia for our Annual Leaders’ Summit. The Australia-India relationship has never been more consequential, and our partnership fosters peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific," he said in a statement.

Albanese said he looked forward to strengthening the deep partnership between the two countries. Albanese and PM Modi last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.

After concluding his Indonesia trip, the Prime Minister will travel to Australia on July 8, where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with Albanese on expanding cooperation in defence, clean energy, critical minerals, investment and emerging technologies.

“As the world’s fourth largest and fastest growing economy, India is a critical economic partner for Australia. Our relationship is underpinned by our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and supported by deep economic and cultural connections," wrote Albanese’s office in a statement.

The Prime Minister is also expected to address the Indian diaspora at a community event titled “Melbourne Meets Modi" at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on July 9.

In May, Albanese highlighted the growing trade and cooperation between India and Australia in his address to the Australian Parliament and said he hoped to welcome PM Modi to the country soon.

Recalling his visit to India, he said, “It is a wonderful experience to see the first-hand warmth that is there. Likewise, I will have the privilege of hosting Prime Minister Modi here soon, a privilege I look forward to repeating for the second time."
