Online Gaming Bill
, 2025, imposing a blanket ban on all online games that involve financial stakes — regardless of whether they are based on chance, skill, or a hybrid of the two. The legislation also prohibits the creation or dissemination of advertisements promoting such games.
The central government cited the explosive growth of
online gaming
in recent years — fuelled by widespread internet access and proliferation of low-cost smartphones — as a driving factor behind the new law. Despite the sector’s rapid expansion, it has operated largely in a regulatory vacuum.
