Rana Daggubati has steadily expanded his identity beyond being a leading Telugu actor, emerging as one of India's most enterprising investor-entrepreneurs. While he comes from the illustrious Daggubati family, known for its decades-long contribution to South Indian cinema, Rana has carved his own path by backing ventures that combine storytelling, technology, media, and consumer-focused businesses.The actor carries forward the cinematic legacy established by his late father D. Ramanaidu, whose production banner, according to Entrepreneur, has delivered over 170 films across 13 languages since it was founded in 1964. The studio's notable productions include 'Drushyam', 'Gopala Gopala', and 'Coolie No.1' (1991). However, Rana's interests today stretch far beyond filmmaking, with investments spanning media-tech, Web3, retail, hospitality, and food brands.

Laying the groundwork with Spirit Media

Rana's entrepreneurial journey began much earlier than many realise. As per Spirit Media's official website, he founded the company in 2005 as a visual effects and production studio. Over the years, it transformed into a full-fledged content ecosystem that now houses a marketing agency, celebrity management wing, media-tech incubator, and several technology-driven storytelling initiatives.Explaining the thinking behind his business choices, Rana told Entrepreneur, "A story can become a film.

It can become a product. It can become anything that one wants to consume. So that's the world I'm sitting in and making sure the ethic of what we do is right and clear."He further highlighted the universal appeal of storytelling, saying, "I think cinema is that one blanket that goes across. It doesn't matter what kind of household income you come from. Doesn't matter where your culture is. A story will cut across."

Betting on digital innovation and creator economy

Rana has also remained an active supporter of emerging technologies.

According to reports by SCMP, he co-founded a Web3 platform around 2021 that enables artists and creators to monetise digital assets in the metaverse. Before that, he had joined hands with a venture focused on accelerating startups working in virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, although the initiative was later discontinued.His investments are equally rooted in preserving Indian storytelling.

As reported by Live Mint, the 'Kaantha' actor acquired a stake and board position in Amar Chitra Katha in 2019, helping the iconic comics brand strengthen its digital footprint while reaching newer audiences.

Expanding into food, retail and lifestyle businesses

Apart from technology, Rana has diversified into several consumer-facing ventures. Esquire India reports that he has backed startups across gaming, skincare, food, beverages, and consumer products through multiple angel investments.Among his latest ventures is Loca Loka, a premium beverage brand co-founded with musician Anirudh Ravichander and entrepreneur Harsha Vadlamudi. The label combines Mexican inspiration with Indian influences and initially gained traction overseas before making its way into the Indian market.Rana has also ventured into experiential retail and hospitality through projects like Broadway, reflecting his growing interest in building lifestyle-led businesses that extend beyond entertainment.
