What started as an investigation into the theft of 32 licensed firearms from a Faridabad police station has led investigators to a year-old murder case. According to police, the ITI apprentice arrested in the police armoury theft case, allegedly confessed during questioning that he killed his 19-year-old cousin Shivam in July last year with the help of his girlfriend, Sarita.

Following the alleged confession, police registered a murder case, arrested Sarita and began searching the Gurugram Canal, where Monu allegedly told investigators they had dumped Shivam’s body.

Teen Had Been Missing For Nearly A Year

Shivam went missing on July 9, 2025, following which his family lodged a missing person’s complaint at Sector 58 Police Station.

Despite months of searching, there was no breakthrough.

Police said Monu’s interrogation in the gun theft case led investigators back to Shivam’s disappearance. Based on information allegedly provided by Monu, police recovered a slipper believed to belong to Shivam. Efforts to recover the body are continuing.

Police Allege Murder Was Planned

According to investigators, Monu suspected Shivam of having “improper intentions" towards Sarita.

Police alleged that the couple planned the murder together.

Investigators said Sarita called Shivam to her house when no one else was present and served him tea allegedly mixed with sedatives.

After Shivam lost consciousness, the two allegedly suffocated him with a pillow before transporting the body on a motorcycle and dumping it into the Gurugram Canal later that night.

Family Claims They Had Raised Suspicions Earlier

Shivam’s elder brother, Vishal, said the family had suspected Monu since the day Shivam disappeared and had informed the police.

The family alleged their suspicions were not properly investigated.

They also claimed Monu, who was working as an apprentice at Sector 8 Police Station, tried to influence the investigation through people known to him. Police have not accepted the allegation.

“The case could have been solved much earlier if our suspicions had been properly investigated," the family said.

Confession Came During Gun Theft Probe

Monu was arrested last month in connection with the theft of 32 licensed firearms from the malkhana of Sector 8 Police Station.

Police said he allegedly revealed details of Shivam’s killing while being questioned in the arms theft case, prompting investigators to reopen the missing person’s case.

Sector 58 SHO Vinod Kumar confirmed that the investigation is continuing and that Sarita has also been arrested in connection with the alleged murder.

Police are continuing investigations into both the arms theft case and the murder case.
