Mojang is bringing several new things as part of Minecraft 26.3, with one of the introductions being the Straw Bed. It emerges as one of the most practically useful items for adventurers.
Unlike a regular bed, the Straw Bed allows you to sleep through the night without being tied to a new spawn point. This makes the item perfect for long adventures, and you can take it for the purpose of things like cave expeditions and diving. In the section below, we take a look at how you can end up crafting the Straw Bed and using it in Minecraft.
How to craft a Straw Bed in Minecraft
The Straw Bed is a new single-use sleeping item that Mojang has ended up introducing as part of Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3.
It is essentially among the key features of the upcoming Wilderness Drop. The core function of the Straw Bed is straightforward, and it basically allows you to sleep through the night or during a thunderstorm without setting or changing your spawn point. When it comes to crafting a Straw Bed, the ingredients are easy to obtain even in early survival. Here is the recipe:
- 3 Hay Bales placed in a horizontal row across the crafting grid
One crafting operation using 3 Hay Bales produces 4 Straw Beds, making it one of the more generous crafting ratios in the game.
Hay Bales themselves are crafted from 9 Wheat each, or can be found naturally in villages. Given how accessible Wheat is even in the early game, stocking up on Straw Beds for a big expedition is something any player can do before setting out.Once used, the Straw Bed is destroyed, so unlike a regular bed, you cannot set up a permanent respawn location with it. This makes it fundamentally different from every other bed in the game. Standard beds always set your spawn when you use them. The Straw Bed specifically does not. You are getting the skip-the-night functionality without any of the spawn-point commitment that comes with it.
How to use the Straw Bed in Minecraft
Using a Straw Bed works identically to a regular bed. Place it down on the ground, right-click or interact with it, and if it is night-time or during a thunderstorm, you will sleep through until morning. When you wake up, the Straw Bed is gone, and your spawn point remains completely unchanged. One important limitation to note: Straw Beds cannot be used in the Nether or The End. If you attempt to place and use one in either dimension, it will be destroyed without letting you sleep.
When should you use a Straw Bed?
The Straw Bed's ideal use cases are clear. If you are on a long exploration run far from your base and you have not built a shelter, a Straw Bed lets you survive the night without permanently relocating your spawn to the middle of nowhere. It is similarly valuable during extended cave runs, where placing a regular bed would shift the respawn deep underground.Carry a stack of Straw Beds on every major adventure, and you will never have to waste time building a temporary shelter or losing sleep over your spawn point again. This was all you needed to know about the Straw Bed in Minecraft.
