Hubby, in-laws arrested for woman’s gangrape

Bhopal: Police in Harda have arrested four members of a woman’s matrimonial family — her husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and maternal uncle-in-law — on gang rape charges.

A court has sent all four to judicial custody.The incident happened in City Kotwali police station area. According to police, the woman went to her parental home and lodged a complaint at Itarsi police station in neighbouring Narmadapuram district. The report was later forwarded to City Kotwali, Harda, following which an FIR was registered.In her complaint, the survivor alleged that around midnight on June 12, her husband and mother-in-law demanded money from her maternal family.

When sherepeatedly refused to fulfil the demand, her brother-in-law and maternal uncle-in-law raped her in the presence of her husband and mother-in-law.She further alleged that when she raised an alarm, her husband and mother-in-law held her hands. After the incident, she was not allowed to go to her maternal home or speak to them on the phone. The next day, when her husband went to bathe, she called her father, who took her back to her maternal home, after which the complaint was filed in Itarsi.

“Based on the FIR that was received from Itarsi police station, all the four accused were arrested and produced before court, which sent them to judicial custody. Accused have been booked under relevant sections pertaining to rape and dowry harassment. Detailed investigations into the allegations made in the FIR are being done,” Kotwali police station incharge Roshanlal Bharti told TOI.
