Madikeri: Hundreds of vibrant yellow-hued bullfrogs have taken over farmlands in B Shettigeri. The sudden appearance of these brightly coloured amphibians has transformed the fields into a lively spectacle, drawing large numbers of visitors eager to witness the unique sight.Often associated with the monsoon season, this phenomenon marks a distinctive phase in the bullfrogs’ life cycle. During the breeding season, male bullfrogs undergo a dramatic transformation, changing from their usual dull colour to a striking neon yellow to attract females. Local farmers and residents, though surprised by the unusual congregation, have welcomed the sight as an indication of healthy soil and a thriving ecosystem.KP Girish, a farmer from B Shettigeri village in Ponnampet taluk, said the frogs have been appearing in large numbers for the past eight days in fields that are yet to be sown with paddy. “We have been seeing these yellow frogs for the last eight days. There are at least 200 of them. This is the first time we have witnessed so many bullfrogs together. It looks beautiful, but at the same time, it is a little frightening because we have never seen anything like this before,” he said.
