Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police book over 900 drunk driving cases in special drives

The Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special drive against drunk driving on February 6 and February 7, booking 604 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Of the total offenders booked in Hyderabad, 492 were two-wheeler riders, 42 were three-wheeler drivers and 70 were driving four-wheelers or other vehicles. Police said cases were registered across multiple blood alcohol concentration levels, with 141 motorists recording BAC levels between 30 and 50, 238 between 51 and 100, and 127 between 101 and 150. Another 61 cases fell in the 151 to 200 range, while 25 drivers recorded levels between 201 and 250, seven between 251 and 300, and five above 300.

Traffic police said there would be zero tolerance towards drunk driving and that such special drives would continue. Commuters were urged to cooperate with enforcement teams.

In a parallel weekend enforcement drive, the Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 314 offenders for drunk driving between February 6 and February 7. According to data released by the police, 245 cases involved two-wheelers, 10 involved three-wheelers, 58 involved four-wheelers, and one involved a heavy vehicle.

Police data also showed that 272 offenders recorded BAC levels between 36 mg per 100 ml and 200 mg per 100 ml, while 27 offenders fell in the 201 to 300 range and 15 recorded BAC levels above 300. All the offenders will be produced before the court.

Age wise analysis of the 314 offenders showed that the majority were in the 21 to 30 age group, accounting for 137 cases, followed by those aged 31 to 40 with 108 cases. Another 45 offenders were aged between 41 and 50. Eleven cases each were recorded in the 18 to 20 and 51 to 60 age groups, while two offenders were above 61. No cases were booked involving minors.

Police station wise figures showed that Miyapur Traffic Police Station recorded the highest number of cases at 54, followed by Jeedimetla with 37, Balanagar with 34, and Gachibowli - 31. Other stations where cases were booked include Madhapur, Narsingi, Raidurgam, Medchal, Patancheru, Kukatpally, KPHB and Ramachandrapuram.

Cyberabad Traffic Police said that in the previous week from February 2 to February 7, a total of 266 drunk driving cases were disposed of by courts. Of these, three offenders were sentenced to fine and jail, 19 were given fine along with social service, while 244 were imposed fines only.
