Hyderabad | Cab driver arrested for attempt to murder constables on patrol duty in Bowenpally

A cab driver was arrested by the Bowenpally police for allegedly attempting to murder two constables on patrol duty by ramming his car into their vehicle during a routine night patrol on July 5, 2025.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Nochina Sampath Kumar, a resident of Krishna Nagar, Moula-Ali, was arrested near Dilsukhnagar Metro Station on Monday (July 7, 2025) along with the vehicle and a mobile phone used during his escape.

According to police, at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, armed reserve constables K. Chanti and L. Praveen were on patrol duty on Dairy Farm Road in Bowenpally when they noticed the suspect’s vehicle parked suspiciously at a dead-end. Upon approaching the car to investigate, the driver allegedly rammed the vehicle into the patrol bike, causing both constables to fall.

While constable L. Praveen sustained a grievous fracture to his left leg, K. Chanti sustained minor injuries. The accused immediately fled the scene. The injured officers were taken to KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad for treatment.

Investigators, using CCTV footage and technical evidence, traced the suspect to his residence in Moula-Ali. Police said Sampath Kumar, who was operating the taxi under a ride-sharing platform, was allegedly engaged in indecent activity with a woman inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. Fearing exposure, legal action, he attacked the officers to escape detection. A case was booked and further investigation is underway.
