Officials said that while early findings indicate a domestic dispute, all possible angles are being examined as part of the investigation.

The FIR states that the pregnant cat was wrapped in plastic, placed inside a basket, and secretly transported in an auto-rickshaw to an undisclosed location, putting her life at risk.

A 23-year-old doctor in Hyderabad’s Alwal died by suicide after repeated fights with her family members over their objection to her adopting a cat at home, police said.

According to the officials, the incident took place on Friday evening when the doctor, identified as T Princy alias Shreshtha, was alone at home.

Princy lived with her mother, Kusumalatha, and her grandmother. A few weeks ago, she brought a cat home. Soon after, she began suffering from a cold and cough. Concerned about her health, family members objected to keeping the cat, which led to frequent arguments in the house.

On Friday evening, Princy was alone at home as her mother and grandmother had stepped out for some work. When they returned, they found her hanging from a ceiling fan in her room.

The family, in distress, alerted neighbours, who then informed the police. A police team reached the house and shifted the body to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

Alwal Sub-Inspector Devendra said, “The mother informed us that Princy had brought home a pet cat. After that, she developed cold and cough symptoms, which led to repeated disputes between them."

Police registered a case of suspicious death based on a complaint filed by the mother. Officials said that while early findings indicate a domestic dispute, all possible angles are being examined as part of the investigation.

Princy had recently completed her medical degree and was preparing for postgraduate entrance examinations. Police said she had also started the process of applying for her medical licence.
