A road adjoining the United States Consulate in Hyderabad has been renamed ‘Donald Trump Avenue’ during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence. The Telangana government said the move was a tribute to the United States and reflected Hyderabad’s growing role in the India-US strategic partnership.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka unveiled the plaque renaming the road during the Freedom 250 celebrations in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The road, formerly known as US Consulate Road in the Financial District at Nanakramguda, was officially renamed ‘Donald Trump Avenue’.

According to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad, the road’s renaming honours the United States while recognising Hyderabad’s growing significance as a centre for India-US cooperation, particularly in the technology, aerospace and defence sectors.

Speaking at the event, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said Hyderabad exemplifies the strengthening partnership between India and the United States, highlighting the city’s expanding role in advancing bilateral ties.

“Nowhere is the high-speed trajectory of the US-India partnership more evident than in Hyderabad. From HITEC City to aerospace and defence, this region represents progress that is defining US-India bilateral momentum," he said.

Thanking the Telangana government for the gesture, Gor said the decision to name the road after US President Donald Trump reflected the “strong, respectful partnership" championed by the American leader.

He also referred to the proposed interim trade agreement and the Mission India initiative, saying the two measures were expected to generate more than USD 20 billion in fresh investment for the United States.

Speaking at the gala reception, Gor highlighted the relationship between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“That dynamic relationship between our two leaders (President Trump and Prime Minister Modi), that trust that exists, unlocks an unlimited potential. I truly believe that these few years will impact the next few decades of the world. If you pick any item around the world, India and the United States are already partnered or will be partnered on it. Whether it’s space, whether it’s ocean, whether it’s defence, whether it’s pharmaceuticals, whether it’s trade, no matter the item, the United States and India are working hand in hand," he said.

“We’re open to you. We want to work with you. We want to take this relationship and this partnership to the next level. India brings a vibrancy to the United States, and the United States brings a vibrancy to India. I’m confident that 250 years from now, our two nations will be as good of friends, if not better, than we are today," the envoy said.

US Consul General Laura Williams, hosting her first Independence Day reception in Hyderabad, highlighted the region’s growing role in strengthening cooperation in aerospace, defence, artificial intelligence and biopharma across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

The Freedom 250 reception was attended by senior diplomats, government officials, industry leaders, and representatives from the technology, aerospace and defence sectors. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was also present at the event.
