"I didn’t have to deal with that”-NBA legend Carmelo Anthony weighs in on son Kiyan’s negative media spotlight

NBA legend Carmelo Anthony is counted among the most renowned names in the history of fame. The former New York Knicks player has carved out a remarkable legacy with his tenure on the court, which recently earned him a much-deserved induction into the Hall of Fame.

However, that same legacy has been somewhat of a burden for his son, Kiyan, who is also lacing up his shoes to make a career in basketball, with his father addressing the negativity he faces from the media.

Carmelo Anthony weighs in on his son Kiyan facing media criticism

In a recent interview with SLAM, Carmelo Anthony told his son that he was glad he did not have to deal with the media like Kiyan does today. “I’m glad I don’t have to deal with what you have to deal with from a media standpoint. I thought media in my time was crazy…”

Furthermore, Anthony also stated that during his prime, it was easy to identify the columnists who would attack him, as their names were mentioned. However, in the digital age, it is difficult to identify them. He said, "You can’t identify that.Everyone in the world is a columnist, a beat writer, or a journalist. I’m glad I didn’t have to deal with that."

Kiyan Anthony is beginning his own NBA journey the same way his father, Carmelo Anthony, did

Kiyan Anthony honored his father, Carmelo Anthony, at his Hall of Fame induction by placing the ceremony jacket on his shoulders and presenting him with the Hall of Fame ring. It could be seen as a passing of the torch moment between the father and son. Kiyan is set to play basketball at Syracuse, the same school his father played for, and led the Orange to its first-ever national championship.

That, of course, puts Kiyan into the spotlight with major expectations and also the weight of carrying such a rich legacy on his back to carry forward. So apart from being a promising young player, he is also the son of an NBA legend which makes him a target for scrutiny, whether fair or not. However, only time will tell whether Kiyan is able to live up to those expectations and make a mark on the court much like his legendary father.
