Actress Neeru Sehgal, last seen in Kohrra Season 2 on Netflix as Loveleen, left an impact with her performance. Her presence brought emotional depth, strength, and warmth to the narrative. Before stepping into long-format storytelling, Neeru built an impressive body of work in advertising, featuring in over 40 campaigns.
For Kohrra S2, Neeru underwent intensive character workshops alongside Rannvijay Singha, focusing on building backstory and emotional depth for her character. In an interview, she tells us more. You worked closely with Rannvijay Singha during character workshops. What were some key discoveries about Loveleen that emerged during those sessions?Working with Rannvijay during the workshop was honestly great experience for me.
Workshop was conducted by Nitin sir and it involved lots of in depth emotions exploring, deep contemplating, character building, and lots of tears. During the entire process I figured out several things about Loveleen as a person — her silences, her contradictions, her quiet strength. One of the biggest discoveries was realizing that her vulnerability wasn’t weakness; it was actually her power.
I found layers of resilience and emotional depth in her that weren’t obvious on paper and it clearly reflected on screen and in subtexts of her dialogues.
That workshop really reminded me that when you approach a character with honesty instead of judgment, it will reflect truly on screen no matter what. The show was shot in Punjab’s harsh winter conditions. Did the real locations and weather help you get into character, or did they make the process more challenging?Shooting in Punjab’s harsh winter wasn’t easy at all, but could not shake our entire team of Kohrra. There were days when the cold really tested us. But in a strange way, it helped us drop my guard and feel the rawness of Punjab that we were portray in the series. The real locations and weather added an utmost honesty and beautiful filmmaking that you can’t fake.
All the winter and Punjab’s fog only added to the beauty of the show.
While shooting Kohrra Season 2, did you ever anticipate that it would resonate so strongly with audiences? At what point did you realise this project was going to be something truly special for you as an actor?Honestly, when we were shooting, everyone was totally focused on telling the story in the most fascinating way. You never really know how something will land.
However, one thing we all were sure of that audiences were eagerly waiting for season 2 after huge success of Kohrra season 1. But there were moments on set, especially during some of the more intense scenes, when I felt this quiet magic… like we were part of something deeper than just a show.
For example: Sam and Preet’s fight scene was such an intense scene that it brought strange silence on the set and it literally gave us goosebumps.
I knew it from beginning that this is going to be most special to me as an actor, after all it is my first ever Netflix show. Moreover, when the audience started connecting with it so personally, that’s when it truly hit me again, this wasn’t just a project, it was a milestone in my journey as an actor.Any anecdote from the sets you remember that you think will stay with you can be while shooting or off screen as well?To whoever reading this, know this that for us actors its a privilege to be playing someone else on screen and bringing that character to life. During this whole process, we always learn and unlearn a lot of things, we become better and better with every project. During the whole process from auditioning to getting locked to shooting for Kohrra has taught me perseverance, resilience, trusting the process, staying true to yourself, be rooted, grounded, humbled and these will stay with me forever and ever.
